History of Colquhoun tartan: In 1241, the time of Alexander II, Malcolm, Earl of Lennox, granted the Colquhoun territories in Dunbartonshire to Humphrey of Kilpatrick. Humphrey's son Ingram is the first person to record Colquhoun's surname.

About 1368, Luss, in Loch Lomond, was married to Sir Robert Colquhoun by marriage. Since then the monarchy has been described as Colquhoun and Luss.

Her granddaughter Iain Colquhoun from Luss married Margaret, Earl's daughter Earl. When James I (pictured above) returned from a British occupation a few years later in 1424, one of his retaliates was Lennox, who did not support him. Lennox's position was abolished and Iain of Lussus used the opportunity to gain the Lord's favor by capturing Dumbarton Castle in Lennox.
